If you are a younger driver, you should be aware that you may by liable to pay a young driver surcharge when collecting your vehicle.

What are Young Driver Charges?

You must be at least 20 years old to rent passenger cars or 23 years old to rent jeeps.  You may rent certain jeeps if you are between 20 and 22 years of age. Also, every renter must hold a valid driving license for a minimum of  12 months. For any driver under 20 / 23 years old, a Young Driver Charge will apply.

How much are Young Driver Charges?

In Iceland, the Young Driver Charge is 1.000 ISK per day and is applicable to all drivers under 20 years old and for some cargroups (jeeps) 23 years old.  Please note that this fee changes by country and car type.
